Doing our Part to Address the E-Waste Crisis
At RCK Computer Services, we are here to maximize the
value of your computer investment and to minimize the ecological
consequences of your use of technology. A part of that is
offering a second life to used computer equipment.
E-waste is the fastest growing segment of the waste stream.
This leads to many unfortunate consequences, particularly
from the threat that the hazardous constituents of electronic
equipment poses to the water shed.

"E-waste processors use a variety of still-developing
processes to separate the materials contained in electronic
equipment, achieving a 98%+ recovery rate of the various
plastics, metals, glass etc that can be reused to manufacture
anything from new electronics to plastic lumber," wrote
Julian Powell of Zentech Computer Recycling, a pioneer in
the growing e-waste industry. "This exploding industry uses
a variety of techniques from manual dismantling to shredding
and sophisticated chemical and mechanical processes to recover
the enormous variety of materials contained in electronics."
Although we are still researching local post-consumer
markets for various components of the electronics waste stream,
we are prepared to immediately begin accepting used computers
and monitors.
We charge $15.00 per computer and $1.00 per diagonal
inch for used monitors. Please give us a call to arrange
the drop off of your old computer here in Nelson. We are now
exploring potential drop-off sites throughout the Kootenays.
